JULY 2015
Happy 30th Birthday Joe Wagner Group!
We are very proud this month to celebrate 30 years in business. It seems that a lot has changed over the last 30 years but, then again, a lot of things have stayed the same. We now have mobile phones, internet, GPS and certified management systems but we still have several of the same staff, customers and supply chain partners that we had at the start, 30 years ago! Whilst our work tools have evolved significantly, our core mission to provide sustainable construction solutions hasn't changed since 1985.

We are extremely proud of our long term relationships and are committed to developing and maintaining key relationships that will endure for the next 30 years.  Please enjoy reading about what we've been up to as we turn 30, below.

Practical Completion at Fisher Park
JWG has achieved Practical Completion on the Fisher Park Heavy Vehicle Rest Area project. This project was successfully constructed for Dept of Transport and Main Roads on the Cunningham Highway, near Maryvale. Dave, Mil and the rest of the team battled with wet weather, poor subgrade and speeding trucks to deliver the project safely, efficiently and on time. The JWG team is very proud of its strong relationship with DTMR and looks forward to building more quality road infrastructure in the future.

JWG Earthmoving Fleet in Action
Earthmoving plant hire is Joe Wagner Group's core business and Fisher Park provided a great demonstration for the JWG fleet. Key features offered by the JWG fleet included:
  • A consistent machine control solution across graders, excavators and rover.
  • Multi-disciplined plant operators who could work across different items of plant or conduct other tasks when required.
  • Final trim operators; not just labourers with tickets.
  • Comprehensive plant offering that included JWG excavators, graders, rollers, backhoes and trucks.

Empowering People - 4 Pillars Programme Launch
JWG recently launched its "4 Pillars" programme to promote the values that have established it as an employer of choice for 30 years. The "pillars" are Pride, Support, Lifestyle and Value and they are accompanied by the tag line "where our team if our foundation". These employment aspects that are most important to JWG staff were identified by a focus group; the group participated in a workshop on the strengths and weaknesses of employment at JWG and reported results back to management for review. The team held a family friendly launch event in May as JWG strives to continue to attract and retain the very best plant operators and staff in the industry.

Feature Project - MacQueen Street Subdivision, Toowoomba
JWG is pleased to be providing plant hire and concrete construction to Leadbetter Contracting for this subdivision in North Toowoomba. Leadbetter Contracting has been wet hiring earthmoving machinery from JWG for 30 years - we believe that this long term relationship is testament to our efforts in delivering sustainable construction solutions. Our high quality plant hire service assists our clients to sustain their own businesses; just as we have helped the Leadbetter team to deliver dozens of subdivision and pipeline projects across Qld and northern NSW over the last three decades.
Did You Know?
Joe Wagner has owned and operated Case backhoes for 50 years! The Wagner family were among the first in Qld own a backhoe.
Joe was excavating a pipeline by hand around 50 years ago when the family purchased their first Case backhoe. He tried out the new machine, decided it was too complicated and re-commenced hand excavation. He didn't dig too much more of Toowoomba's firm red soils before deciding that this backhoe thing might be worth another go....

The JWG fleet today includes several Case Backhoes. The managers believe that these versatile tools will continue to be the first machine on each project and the last to leave for many years to come.

Social Circles - JWG 30th Birthday Party!

Employees, customers and supply chain partners celebrated JWG's 30th birthday at Middle Ridge Golf Club in late June. The team has developed a few good stories in 30 years together and the party continued well into the night!
