Welcome to the fall season of Encore Chorale!

It is hard to believe that the summer is drawing to a close, but what a summer it has been! Summer camp at Washington College was a blast with a record 93 singers joining us. I hope you’ve had a chance to check out the video. (link) It is amazing what our singers accomplish in one week of concentrated rehearsal, and you can certainly tell that there was a lot of focused rehearsals with rehearsal CDs prior to camp. Next we are off to Chautauqua and we can't wait!

Fall registrations are flying in. The Reston Chorale is the first one to sell out and start a waiting list! Don't delay in getting your registration in!

Registration is now open. Go to our web site at http://encorecreativity.org and you will view all our chorales and their registration schedule.

Speaking of rehearsal CDs, beginning this fall, all singers will be receiving a rehearsal CD at the very first rehearsal. You asked for it, we are making it happen! While we feel confident that we will have enough copies of each voice part for each chorale during their first rehearsal, you will be guaranteed a CD if you preregister online or call our office no later than August 25th. If you register after that date, you will receive your CD at the second rehearsal. In addition, you will no longer be asked to fill out a Student Information Form on the first day if you register in advance online. So, whether you are paying the registration fee on the first day or paying in advance online, your check-in will be a breeze if we have you pre-registered! That gives you more time to catch up with friends instead of filling out forms!

By now, all of our singers have received a separate email with the link to fall registration and a copy of the flyer for your chorale. If you have already registered, have no fear, we have you on our list. However, we know that there is no better way to encourage new singers to join us than by word of mouth, so we are hoping that you will take the opportunity to forward the information on to your friends, print and post flyers around your neighborhood, and share your passion for Encore.

Encore conductors, staff and volunteers are all happily gearing up to welcome you to a wonderful new season of singing, comradery, and performance experiences. As a matter of fact, Encore conductors and chorale masters are meeting this Friday in preparation for rehearsals. We can’t wait to see you in September!

Smiles, Mary

Traveling with Encore!!!

It has been some time since we sent a travel questionnaire to you.   And since then,  the Elbe River trip for 2017 has been cancelled by Grand Circle.   It seems the river was many times too high or too low. We had about 18 interested in the trip from Nice to Paris, but I think we will stay out of France for a while. And we had 7 for the Mississippi River trip.

So, I went to work again and came up with two exciting trips - a national choice and an international choice!

For national travel:

A three day musical retreat at the gorgeous

Omni Homestead Resort, Hot Springs, Virginia

February 24 to 26, 2017

This will be our first weekend getaway for Encore!

The historic and grand Omni Homestead Resort will be celebrating their 250th anniversary and Encore will be celebrating our 10th anniversary!!!!!   So it is fitting that we visit the Homestead for a grand weekend of fabulous song, food, drink, lodging and friends.  Let’s celebrate!!

We will stay in beautiful rooms, enjoy scrumptious meals, and participate in Encore Chorale rehearsals,  Encore ROCKS rehearsals, vocal technique classes, and sight reading classes.

Jeanne Kelly and Jeff Dokken will keep you amused and singing beautifully! Bus transportation will be offered for those who are interested.

We will leave Friday, February 24 at 8am and arrive at noon for lunch. We will work musically for about three hours and then enjoy lots of fun. You can relax in the hot springs of the hotel or enjoy their wonderful indoor pool!  The meals will be fabulous and the socializing will be marvelous.

Saturday, we will work musically from 10am to noon and in the afternoon you can enjoy the hotel and all it has to offer. And, we have been invited to perform for their  tea! Sunday, we will do a little rehearsing, and then do a short performance. We will arrive back in DC at about 6:30pm.

Spouses, partners, and guests are warmly welcomed.

Check out the Omni Homestead Resort here:

Single rate approximate cost :  $755.00  including room and all meals, resort fees, taxes, choral rehearsals and classes.

Double rate approximate cost:  $1,115.00 including room and all meals for two, resort fees, taxes, choral rehearsals and classes.

Please note that a double rate includes either one couple or two friends sharing a room with two beds!

Bus transportation will be $65 per person and is non-refundable.

In order for Encore to hold space at this superb hotel,  we need to hear from those that wish to do this trip. Please respond by September 10 if you wish to join us.  Please email Jeanne Kelly at  Jeanne.kelly@encorecreativity.org

For international travel:

Spain and Portugal in Depth

May 25 – June 8, 2017

 Madrid,  Granada,  Torremolinos,   Seville,   Lisbon

We will travel by coach to tour these magnificent cities rich in culture and history. On our Grand Circle journey we will visit 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including El Escorial, Historic Center of Toledo, Historic Center of Cordoba, The Alhambra, Gothic Cathedral of Seville, Lisbon’s Belem Tower and The Palace of Sintra. There are five hotels, one for each city we will visit. Hotels are centrally located. The tour includes 13 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 6 dinners. The longest coach connection is on day 5: one and one half hours to Toledo from Madrid, and then 3 three and one half hours to Granada.

Grand Circle tour directors will present excellent in-depth tours of each city. Grand Circle is known for their Home-Hosted visits and we will enjoy lunch with a family in the village of Salinas. So practice your Spanish! And you can travel to Africa!  There is an optional full-day tour to exotic Morocco. Our plan is to present two concerts along our journey. This trip is limited to 42 travelers. There are 10 single rooms available.
