Hello marvelous Encore singers!
I was overcome with emotion when 700 voices began to sing on the DAR stage! I think we all felt it - that feeling that no words can explain but that you feel in your core. My heart filled with overflowing emotion, pride, and sheer joy. And, your faces told the story of what Encore is really all about. What we shared was truly miraculous and I am still pinching myself.

May 2018 Encore Canada Trip!

We have been in conversations with Classical Movements, a very well regarded company who plans choral and orchestra tours for major organizations including National Symphony, major university choral programs and auditioned choirs. In short,  Classical Movements loves what we are all about and they have put together a splendid Eastern Canadian trip for May 2018. Encore will be performing 3 large concerts on our concert tour!! The date of departure will be near May 25, 2018- though exact dates have not yet been confirmed.

The trip begins with a flight to Montreal, where we will enjoy a tour of the area and perform a concert in a high-profile venue, perhaps Norte-Dame Basilica of Montreal. Stunning! We will also include the picturesque town of Laval, known for its thriving arts scene, museums, art galleries, and intricate architecture. We will perform a concert in Laval. Then off by bus or train along the St. Lawrence River to Quebec!  We will enjoy a city tour. This day also includes a sound check for our third big concert. The sixth day we tour around the Quebec area including Montmorency Falls. Day 7 we will have free time to wonder around Quebec.

Classical Movements will make sure our concerts are a great success. Price is $2,800 and includes transportation, six nights for twin room accommodations, and most food.

In order for Classical Movements to continue to plan our concert tour, Encore will have to have the commitment of at least 75 singers that make up a well- balanced choral sound.
We still need to hear from tenors and basses. With that being said, we need to hear from you by July 8 with your full commitment to this trip. So please think about it and let us know by July 8, 2017. If we do not get enough singers by July 8, this trip will not be taking place. We need 25 more singers in order for this to be a go! Encore needs to commit to a contract for this trip, so we need to hear from you now. Email info@encorecreativity.org or call us at 301-261-5747 today and let us know that you plan to come with us!

From Mary Spencer
Executive Director
These past few months have been nothing short of spectacular with a full schedule of spring concerts, the DAR Constitution Hall "concert of the decade", and Encore's chance to represent our program at the Sound Health: Music and the Mind Conference at the Kennedy Center on June 3rd. I am so proud of our singers, conductors and staff for pulling off the coup of the decade. The DAR team told me that this was more than double the number of performers they have ever had on the DAR stage! They were amazed and so were we! We asked for flexibility, humor, and resilience, and you brought those things and so much more. I don't think any of us will forget what we accomplished together.

Encore singers know how to have a good time!

To add to the excitement, Encore has been getting quite a bit of publicity as well. Encore's goal is to make sure that every older adult in the country who wants to sing has the opportunity, so we are very hopeful that as a result of this burst of new publicity, more and more singers will find Encore.

Below are links to some of our favorite media coverage.

Finally, as Encore's Executive Director, I would like to thank all of our donors who continue to make Encore your philanthropic priority. It has been an exciting year with many special initiatives underway. We ask that every singer make a contribution each year to Encore's Annual Fund. These gifts in support of Encore's operating budget are what keeps the doors open, the lights on, the staff in place to support you, excellent conductors working hard to be there for our singers, and the excellent rehearsals and concert venues available. 20% of our operating budget is provided through donations. Your gifts help keep tuition affordable so that as many singers as possible have access to our program. If you have not yet made your gift to this fiscal year's Annual Fund, please do so today. Our fiscal year runs until August 30th so there is still time to make a difference. Gifts received prior to August 30 will be listed in the Annual Report coming out this fall. A gift to the Annual Fund is the first and most important gift you can make to Encore. It is what keeps us going day after day! Your generous donation is tax deductible.  Click here to make your gift!

With warmest wishes for a wonderful summer, Mary

Our 10th Anniversary celebrations will continue for the remainder of 2017
and we look forward to sharing more special events this fall.

An Exciting Partnership for Encore!
Encore is thrilled to have AARP as a 10th Anniversary Presenting Sponsor. This sponsorship supports our anniversary year celebrations and provided resources for us to offer our once-in-a-lifetime performance on the stage of DAR Constitution Hall on May 13, 2017!  We are so grateful for this partnership for many reasons.  AARP’s financial support also funds annual operating costs, tuition scholarships, professional conductor fees, equipment costs, and staffing.
Most importantly, this sponsorship ensures that Encore will continue to provide free concerts to the community.  AARP advocates new discoveries and new possibilities at any age -- in perfect sync with Encore's mission to provide an excellent and artistic environment to older adults. Thank you to AARP and to all of our singers and friends of Encore for your continued support.
