Our summer Encore Chorale Institutes at Washington College and Chautauqua were fabulous! The singers loved the repertoire and the rehearsals were challenging, fun, and productive. The grand finale concerts were incredible.
We had many singers attend our Summer Sing! at Tenth and G.  I heard many say they needed their “SING FIX”   and they wanted to see their singing friends. It was a grand night for singing!
Encore is so fortunate to have such excellent and experienced conductors and we are happy to welcome three new conductors to our conducting roster. Gisele Becker, conductor of “Cantate Chamber Singers” is joining me at Schweinhaut. Doug Byerly, director of AACC Concert Choir and AACC Opera and Music Director of the Archdiocese of Baltimore will be conducting our new Towson ROCKS Chorus. Brian Gendron, past Director of Choral Activities at Virginia Tech and conductor of Alexandria Choral Society, will co-conduct with me at Langston and co-conduct GHBC with Associate Artistic Director Jeff Dokken. Excellence abounds!
Have a ball at your rehearsals. Put your rehearsal CDs to use and you will be confident, comfortable, and courageous in no time!

Dear Encore Singers - Fabulous news!!!

It is with great excitement that I share the news that Jeanne Kelly has been awarded the 2017 Performing Arts Annie Award given by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. This is another great opportunity to share Encore’s story with our community during our 10th Anniversary year. We are extremely honored that Jeanne has been given this very prestigious recognition. The official award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium at St. John’s College in Annapolis.
The ceremony is free and open to the public and we hope to have a great turnout to come and support Jeanne as she accepts this award. In 2000, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County began recognizing six different “Annie Award” winners for their lasting, significant, and inspiring contribution to an art form, an arts organization and/or to the wider community of Anne Arundel County. This year marks the 17th Annual presentation of the prestigious Arts award honoring one member of the community in each of the 8 categories- Literary Arts, Visual Arts, Arts Patron, Performing Arts, Arts Educator, Lifetime Achievement, Arts Philanthropist, and Historic Arts.
The purpose of the Annie Awards is to highlight the accomplishment of artists, educators, and art supporters to inspire and to promote the arts and historic preservation in Anne Arundel County.
Please join me in congratulating Jeanne for receiving the 2017 Performing Arts Annie Award!

Happy singing,
Mary Spencer
Executive Director

Multiple Chorale Participation Policy

Encore is thrilled to have 21 locations in the MD/DC/VA area allowing for singers to make up rehearsals at different locations when they miss a rehearsal at their “home rehearsal location” due to travel, illness or other conflicts. As our program continues to grow, many of our rehearsal spaces are becoming filled to capacity. As always, we encourage singers to make up missed rehearsals at another location so that they are able to attend a total of 15 rehearsals each semester.
Should singers wish to attend two locations on a regular basis, Encore requires that singers pay for both chorale locations. For years Encore has had quite a few singers who have registered and paid for multiple locations because they love the extra rehearsal time. Our “make up policy” is on the honor system. Just as a college or arts institute asks students to pay for each art, dance, or music class they participate in, Encore asks the same of its singers. Encore offers a valuable and professional experience to our singers at each location, and each Chorale location has a cost associated with it that is 80% supported by the tuition that registered singers pay (the other 20% of the cost is covered by donations.) Honoring this policy is important for all of our singers and conductors, allowing for a positive experience for all.

Encore Welcomes New Conductors to Begin this Fall!

Gisèle Becker is one of the Washington area’s leading choral conductors. Becker has served as Director of Choral Activities at the George Washington University, Chorus Master of the Cathedral Choral Society, Assistant Conductor of the Washington Bach Consort and continues to be Music Director of the Cantate Chamber Singers. Giselle will be co-conducting the Schweinhaut Encore Chorale with Jeanne Kelly. Her vision of musical excellence and her commitment to imaginative programming, including commissions and premiere performances of new choral works, have earned for her the highest admiration and respect from her professional colleagues and audiences alike. The Washington Post says Becker “has molded her group into a well balanced and responsive ensemble … focused, intelligent music-making.” The Post called her 2003 performance of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor “a version as transfixing as it was bold … riveting in its fresh, impassioned and personal vision.”

Kick off your holiday season by traveling with Encore!!!
You asked for it! You got it!
We invite all interested Encore singers to join us for one of our repeat travel programs! Last year, our first weekend trip was a huge success with 90 singers joining us at the Omni Homestead Resort. Our trip included wonderful rehearsals, a performance for hotel guests and even a flash mob during high tea! This December we are returning to the Homestead to enjoy the gorgeous holiday decorations in this historic resort. We need to hear from singers in order to confirm with the resort and contract the appropriate number of rooms with the hotel. They will only block rooms that we can guarantee. Please don't delay in letting us know of your interest. Email the Encore Office at info@encorecreativity.org to add your name to the list. You will be contacted separately with additional trip details.

Classical Movements loves what we are all about and they have put together a splendid Eastern Canadian trip for May 2018. Encore will be performing 3 large concerts on our concert tour!! The tour is scheduled to depart on May 29, 2018 and runs through June 4, 2018.

The trip begins with a flight to Montreal, where we will enjoy a tour of the area and perform a concert in a high-profile venue, perhaps Norte-Dame Basilica of Montreal. Stunning! A big thank you to Encore's Donors!

Thank you to all of our tremendous donors who contributed to last fiscal year's Annual Fund, the Newly named Jeanne Kelly Founder's Fund, and the Matching Challenge to support our fabulous DAR concert. It was an amazing year and Encore received over $200,000 in support from individuals, families, corporate sponsors, and granting organizations. This support has strengthened Encore in Myriad ways. We will be sending out Encore's Annual Report later this fall and we look forward to sharing the many ways these gifts have made an impact on the program we are able to offer our singers. Just like the name suggests, our Annual Fund began anew on September 1st. It is never too early in the season to make your Annual gift to Encore, Your gift will be put to work right away to support Encore!

We ask that every singer make a contribution each year to Encore's Annual Fund. These gifts, made in support of Encore's operating budget, are what keeps the doors open, the lights on, the staff in place to support you, excellent conductors working hard to be there for our singers, and the excellent rehearsals and concert venues available. 20% of our operating budget is provided through donations. Your gifts help keep tuition affordable so that as many singers as possible have access to our program. Our fiscal year runs from September 1st through August 31 each year. A gift to the Annual Fund is the first and most important gift you can make to Encore. It is what keeps us going day after day! Your generous donation is tax deductible.

Click here to make your gift! or call me at the Encore Office at 301-261-5747.

An Exciting Partnership for Encore!
Encore is thrilled to have AARP as a 10th Anniversary Presenting Sponsor. This sponsorship supports our anniversary year celebrations and provided resources for us to offer our once-in-a-lifetime performance on the stage of DAR Constitution Hall on May 13, 2017!  We are so grateful for this partnership for many reasons.  AARP’s financial support also funds annual operating costs, tuition scholarships, professional conductor fees, equipment costs, and staffing.
Most importantly, this sponsorship ensures that Encore will continue to provide free concerts to the community.  AARP advocates new discoveries and new possibilities at any age -- in perfect sync with Encore's mission to provide an excellent and artistic environment to older adults. Thank you to AARP and to all of our singers and friends of Encore for your continued support.

Encore Sponsorship Opportunities
Throughout fall 2017, Encore will continue to celebrate 10 successful years!  We are thrilled to provide a program that continues to inspire creativity and joy.  Over the past 10 years, Encore has grown – now serving 10 counties in Maryland, Virginia and DC, with over 1000 singers each year!  Our free concerts bring in an average of 4,000 audience members in December and May and we continue to hear from our national affiliates about their success.

We thank our currents sponsors who have decided to support Encore. If you'd like to know more about these sponsors, click here to be directed to the Encore Home page. Click on their logos on the left-hand side of the page to find out about each of these sponsors.

Being a sponsor this year will provide a wonderful opportunity for organizations and businesses to be highlighted to thousands of singers and their family and friends.  Sponsorships are also critical in supporting financial aid for those who would not otherwise be able to sing with Encore Chorale and Encore ROCKS.
If you have a business or organization that might be a good fit to sponsor Encore, the office staff can put the right package together for you. All sponsorship benefits are offered for a full year after Encore receives a sponsorship, so it is never too late in the season to become a sponsor of Encore!
