Verity Hosts Grade 9 Students at TMX's Take Our Kids to Work™ Day
TORONTO, ON – Wednesday, November 2, 2016
This morning three members of Verity’s team – Diana Cape, Director, Vice President Business Development and Rose Minichiello, Managing Director, Career Management and Transition and Dauna Atkins, Senior Consultant had the privilege of joining grade 9 students for their day at TMX as a part of TMX’s Take Our Kids to Work™ Day activities.
Verity has worked with TMX for a number of years on a variety of career management initiatives and Diana, Rose and Dauna were excited to once again have the opportunity to help TMX welcome their young visitors. Taking advantage of having the eager ear of grade nine students, the team imparted sound advice on the importance of uncovering broader interests.
“They may only be in grade 9, but it’s important for these students to understand that it is never too early to start planning their career,” says Rose. “The great thing about their age is that they have the opportunity to try out a number of different part-time jobs, in different fields and industries, so they can get a feel for what they enjoy and excel in.”
The students were also led through a networking exercise by Dauna. Directed to turn to someone they didn’t know they were encouraged to be curious to get to know others. The exercise was an opportunity to get to know one another better, as practice for developing the skills of networking.
To further help the students in their future job search Verity provided each of them with a customized student job search handbook, which will provide them with invaluable job search tools and insight.
