Watch Me!  Watch Me!  Smile!  Look like what you are singing!
Diction!   Use those consonants!  Energy!  Passion!

Sound Familiar???

I can't wait for our December concerts. You will be fabulous and you will definitely wow your audiences. From now until your concerts, say your words out loud every day. Your improvement will amaze you. The more comfortable and confident you are with the words and music, the more you will be willing to sing out. Confidence allows you to have a blast performing. It is a marvelous feeling to walk off stage thinking "I nailed that."

I am proud of you all! Thanks for making the music spectacular. I will be there with you for every note and every nuance.

Happy Holidays to you all!

To Encore ROCKS Singers

Hi Wonderful singers,
As we approach concert season I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for your wonderful work so far this session.  Your enthusiasm and love of singing is truly infectious, and I can't wait for us all to share this music with the audience.  Now that we are in the home stretch I would encourage you to keep practicing to really solidify your music.  I have found that setting realistic goals is always important.  It is easy to say I'm going to practice 2 hours a day 7days per week, but that is a highly unrealistic goal.  How about we all try to practice 15 minutes per day 5 days per week.  I bet we can all carve out the time to do that, you'll be amazed at how helpful it is!

Make sure you all have a black folder for your music, and make sure your music is in concert order.  Please be sure that you know what your concert attire should be- ask me or your Chorale Master if you are not sure. If you don't have one of the necessary items, please make sure you get it ahead of your first concert.

This rock music is incredibly fun, but what really makes it work is accuracy and energy.  Nobody wants to see a mediocre performance, just as nobody wants to give a mediocre performance.  You all have the potential to be absolutely superb, and if we all work together, our concerts will be truly magnificent.  I love this music, and I am dedicated to making it come to life for each and every singer and each and every audience member.  Working with you all is one of the great joys of my life, and I am so ready for concert time.  Standing up there making music together for an excited and appreciative audience makes all the hard work worth it!
Rock on,
Jeff Dokken

A Message of Gratitude

As we close our 10th Anniversary year of celebration, I extend my personal thanks to all who have supported Encore with Philanthropic gifts in support of our important mission. This week we sent an electronic version of our Annual Report that highlights the many exciting events of this past year. You will also be receiving a printed copy in the mail soon. So many important and significant things have transpired this past year, from the addition of a full ROCKS program to the welcoming of new Choral Conductors for both our Chorale and ROCKS programs. Encore's conductors, staff, chorale masters, and singers should all be proud of the many ways in which our program has been strengthened for our current and future singers. Encore is special to all of us!

For all the ways you have supported the work of Encore, we thank you. Together we are offering this challenging and gratifying program to a growing number of singers, and that feels really good.  Of course, a very important part of my job is to ask every member of the Encore family to make a philanthropic gift to support the program you care about. And so, I ask you to consider making your annual gift now. Making a one-time or monthly gift is easier than ever.  Click here to make your gift securely online. Please know that your gift, when combined with the support from your fellow singers, has a tremendous impact on all that we do! We are truly grateful!

Warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season,
Mary Spencer
Executive Director

Announcing a New Communication System and Registration Process

The Encore Team is thrilled to announce that after a year of careful planning, we have a new data management system that will now be handling both registrations and donations to Encore. This newsletter will be the final one sent through our current database and all future newsletters and mass electronic communications from the Encore headquarters will be coming to you through our new eTapestry database, a Blackbaud product.

There are few important pieces of information for you to know about this new system.

  • The new database will streamline Encore's communication, registration, and donation process - eTapestry is a trusted data management system has 30+ years of knowledge and expertise and serves over 30,000 customers in 6500 small non-profits worldwide.
  • Encore will always have your most up-to-date information - When you register online each semester, any changes to your information will automatically be stored in our database. (Please type carefully)
  • Your payments are processed easily and securely - Credit card payments will no longer be processed through PayPal. They will be processed securely through Blackbaud merchant services. You will only need to complete one form online to register and pay. No more being transferred to a new page to enter your credit card information.
  • It will save you time! You can register for as many chorales and ROCKS programs as you want, all at one time and with one registration form.
  • Just like any new piece of technology, there is a learning curve for all of us - the office is excited to use our new system. Your patience as the office masters this new system will be most appreciated. We are positive that this will make Encore registrations easier for all of us, ensuring that you all have what you need each semester.
  • We encourage every singer to register online in advance. This will help our office staff, your chorale masters, and your conductors. You can choose to pay with a credit card or register and pay by check through the mail or at first rehearsal.
There is only one tricky part to the new registration process! First, you must decide if you will be paying now or paying later and then click on the right registration form!

AACC, Goodwin House, Langston Brown, Glen Echo Chorale and Glen Echo ROCKS singers do not need to register with these forms.

Please look over the schedule below for first rehearsal dates and closures.
